12 hours of content gets uploaded to music-sharing-site Soundcloud every minute. As new, aspiring producers make their soundcloud debuts, the chances of keeping their music from getting lost in the sea of uploads can seem hopeless. But every now and then an Artist manages to break the surface and stay afloat. Meet WRLD: the 16-year-old producer from Netherlands is the latest to be making waves in EDM with his up-tempo, bubbly, feel good vibes that make you feel like you could close your eyes and feel the sand under your feet and warm ocean breeze on your face. WRLD's first single "If U Wanna" is sitting comfortably atop 150k+ plays and for his second act, he just recently won a remix contest of Akouo's "Last Time". WRLD is set for great things and we luckily have an exclusive first interview and All Mine guest mix from the kid so you can get to know him a little better, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the next half hour. (Opening with the premier of an unreleased WRLD track)
AM: So tell us, how were you first introduced to EDM?
WRLD: I was (and still am) a big fan of Owl City, who collaborated with Chicane. Chicane became one of my first influences.
AM: So you were inspired by these two electronic groups, but when and what was the catalyst that moved you from being a fan of electronic music to an artist?
WRLD: This is going to sound really random, but I saw a video of someone who composed a song out of Windows sounds (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsU3B0W3TMs), I wanted to try it too and that's what got me into producing! it got me inspired and I wanted to make something that sounded like that but I failed (obviously since it was my first time trying to produce something)
AM: We're glad you never gave up! And that brings us to your first success, "If U Wanna". When you sit down to make a song like that, What is your creative process? What goes through your mind?
WRLD: Usually I first browse Soundcloud or Spotify until I hear a song that makes me think "I want to make something like this." Then I try to come up with a melody or drum beat that has the same feeling as the song that inspired me. After I have a strong loop going I build the rest of the song around that.
AM: In regards to your new song "Orbit", which was just released on Monstercat, it has a much different sound than your previous two releases. Can you tell us a little more about your vision for your second single and your friend Richard Caddock's role in that?
WRLD: For Orbit the idea was to make a real 'song' instead of a 'track'. I wanted to experiment with pop music structure (as in the intro / verse / chorus etc. type of formula) and then focus on the beauty of the song instead of making it more of a dance-y, banging track. I really like the idea of combining the parts of dance music and the parts of pop music I love into one song, that is totally me. The song was very inspired by Owl City. Someone even said it sounded like 'Cashmere Cat x Owl City', I got super happy reading that. Richard and I have been working together for like 2 years now, and the vocals are actually from an older house track that we never released, he is also a massive fan of Owl City so it was really the perfect combination.
AM: So are you completely self taught? Do you play any instruments?
RLD: Yeah, I'm completely self taught. I play a tiny bit of piano.
AM: When you eventually begin to tour What city would you want to spend the most time in?
WRLD: Tokyo! I really wanna go to Japan
AM: Good choice! We could definitely see you there. So What do you want your future to look like? What do you want to bring to EDM?
WRLD: I just want to spend the rest of my life making music, so that's what I want my future to look like. I just wanna make good and creative music that makes me proud and other people happy.
AM: Doing it all for the right reasons. Thanks for the words!
